Amplify Austin: More Hands, More Hearts!

Thank YOU for Amplifying Manos and the city of Austin. With the generosity of our supporters, we surpassed our goal and raised five times more than what we raised last year!


With 182 donors, $109,551 in donations, $54,755 match from St. David's Foundation and a $1,000 Bass Booster prize sponsored by Kenjol Capital Management, a grand total of $165,306 was raised for Manos programs!

Granding Opening of Manos' Dental Center

After a year-and-a-half of fundraising and construction, Manos celebrated the new, expanded facility which is now located at 4911 Harmon Avenue. The Manos de Cristo Dental Center offers a full range of restorative and periodontal treamtent. Find out more here.


2013 Charity Golf Classic Raises $35,000 for Manos Programs!

This year's Back-to-School program was held July 29 - August 2 and August 5 - August 9, 2013. Over 1,700 children (and counting) have been given a new backpack, school supplies, clothing and books! Read more.




Impact Austin Awards Manos Over $100,000 for Clinic Expansion

JUNE 17, 2013

Manos de Cristo’s Executive Director, Julie Ballesteros, was doing a “happy dance” on June 17 when she heard that Manos won a $101,000 grant from Impact Austin. Partnering with Impact Austin is a great honor. The funding will allow Manos to equip three new treatment rooms in its expanded dental clinic expected to be open in late fall. Members of Impact Austin along with staff and Board from Manos de Cristo gathered for an awards ceremony, which was covered by KVUE on Monday, June 24. The Board and staff at Manos de Cristo are sincerely thankful and feel truly blessed to have the support and endorsement of such an important and special group of women in the community. Grin & Share It Luncheon

Austin Cranked Up the Giving!

MARCH 4 - 5, 2013

For 24 hours spanning March 4th & 5th, Austin transformed into a community-wide giving festival called Amplify Austin. This initiative far exceeded its goal of raising $1,000,000 for 330 local nonprofits—the final tally was over $2,700,000. Manos de Cristo received $21,990 from 107 individual donors and we were 20th place in the amount of money raised. Thank you to our generous supporters who helped push Manos so far—we have never been prouder to serve the Austin community!

The Caleb 5K Run was held this year on July 14th! Participants ran, walked or crawled their way through this early morning event benefitting 5 charities, including Manos! Manos Recieves Over $15,000 from P.Terry's!

On Saturday, March 24th, all proceeds from every P. Terry's restaurant in Austin were designated to be donated to Manos de Cristo! Manos’ biggest fundraiser each year, the All You Need is Love Gala, proves that Manos can have fun with our wonderful donors and friends while raising money for all of our important causes. More than 250 people attended the event on February 3 and raised over $40,000 during the live auction and Fund-a-Need.

Back-to-School Program Threatened by Economy, in Need of Funding

This year Manos is kicking off our fundraising for Back-to-School early to get bargain prices on the materils we distribute. KXAN and YNN produced two great stories about the Back-to-School (BTS) program and talked with two parents of children who were helped by BTS this August. In order for BTS 2012 to be successful, advanced preparation is key. Thousands of children and families need assistance with school supplies, backpacks and clothing; with the BTS program, Manos offers them a solution. Manos de Cristo Charity Golf Classic

Manos de Cristo held our first ever Charity Golf Classic on September 23, 2011 at scenic Falconhead Golf Course. This inaugural event was a wonderful way to spend a Friday afternoon: the weather was perfect, the golf was fun, there was food and drink for all, and everything benefited an important cause. More than 1 in 5 Austin Residents Live in Poverty, New Census Data Show

SEPTEMBER 22, 2011

The Austin American Statesman reports that more people in Austin lived in poverty, were on food stamps and saw their median family household incomes shrink in 2010, according to new census data out today depicting the growing toll of the weakened economy in Central Texas and across the state. Flamenco Performance to Benefit Manos de Cristo: “Hoy por ti, mañana por mi”

Pilar Andujar, along with students from her classes, present "Hoy por ti, mañana por mi," a night of flamenco dancing and a lot of love! Pilar is an internationally known professional flamenco dancer, choreographer and instructor from Spain who has performed as in invited artist around the world. 100% of the proceeds from this performance will benefit Manos de Cristo's Back-to-School program.



Hope Children's Fair to Benefit Manos de Cristo


APRIL 16, 2011

Hope Presbyterian Church is hosting the Hope Children's Fair that will raise monies for area nonprofits, including Manos de Cristo. This fair is packed with fun entertainment for children and families, with booths, activities, food and performances including Tae Kwon Do and dance.


You will also get to hear about the exciting after-school and summer activities that are available for children. Best of all, attendance is FREE!


The fair is happening Saturday, April 16, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church. Come for a day of family fun and support the nonprofits that are helping children in Central Texas.

The All You Need is Love Gala is Manos’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Last year, proceeds from the Gala helped us continue to provide low-cost dental care, basic needs, and education opportunities to more than 15,000 Central Texans in need.

October 1, 2010: Manos Participates in Binational Health Week

CasasManos will reach out to build awareness of our Dental Clinic, Adult Education and Basic Needs programs among potential clients. Binational Health Week is a series of free health events taking place across the nation aimed at improving the health of Latino families. Friends and family will get to enjoy fun events happening in Austin while receiving important information about how to improve their health by learning about resources available to lend a hand.


In October, Manos will also host a series of "Road to Health" nutrition classes in order to educate our clients on how to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

August 20, 2010: Hispanic Network of Austin Joins Manos de Cristo in Empowering Local Children

On August 20, 2010 the Hispanic Network of Austin (HNA), founded by Yvette Ochoa Armani, hosted an event to jump start Back-To-School 2011 with a donation of $1000 and more than 150 backpacks for Back-To-School! The event was supported and attended by local vendors affiliated with HNA. Sponsors for the event were: Business Bank of Texas, LSI, Targus, Clear, Heartland Payment Systems, Arbonne, Schmooze Networking, Rovia, Sunrise Soaps, Bells Promotional Products Inc., Abundant Living Enterprises, Travel Abundance, The Whelan Group, and Tony Ramos, CPA. August 16, 2010: Back-To-School Helps Thousands of Children

GirlsThe 2010-2011 school year has begun, and that means Manos’ annual Back-To-School program again prepared Central Texas children for a successful school year. During the first two weeks of August, more than 480 volunteers came together to help Manos prepare 2,249 children for school with a backpack, grade-appropriate school supplies, clothing, and books. With the support of individuals, churches, businesses and organizations, including the Trull Foundation, a Leading Sponsor, Manos provided a warm, caring environment where every child could have a positive experience at the start of the new school year.



April 17, 2010: Manos Hosts Citizenship & Immigration Forum

April 17, 2010: Manos Hosts Citizenship & Immigration Forum For the first time Manos de Cristo will be hosting a Citizenship & Immigration Forum where clients will be able to take advantage of having an opportunity to consult with an immigration attorney, receive assistance with the completion of the N-400 application, and have a passport photograph taken. The forum takes place on Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM and will help many immigrants learn of the many benefits of becoming a citizen. March 25, 2010: Manos Awarded $20,000 from Tom’s of Maine

tom's logoManos de Cristo has been awarded a $20,000 sponsorship from Tom’s of Maine Dental Health for All project. The decision to give Manos the sponsorship was made the public, who voted online for our Dental Clinic to receive the funding. Over the next three months the project will provide affordable dental care to 470 patients. Giving these patients healthy smiles is critical to their health and well-being. “Affordable dental care is a critical need in our community, and we are so excited that through the support of Tom’s of Maine, we are closer to meeting this need,” said Julie Ballesteros, Executive Director of Manos. “Thanks to all of you for supporting our Save a Smile Campaign.”

This year will be as fun and exciting as ever, we can’t wait to experience BTS with you and the children we serve! The Travis County Sheriff’s Office will partner with Manos to make this year’s event even more successful than years past and we look forward to working with you. Back-to-School Block Party 2009

We love Back-To-School and so do you, so this year we’ve decided to celebrate it. Enjoy some Austin fun on June 13th from 11am-5pm at the Mexican American Culture Center, 600 River St, Austin, TX 78701. Austin Marathon: 26 miles for 26 charities

  • Manos de Cristo is participating in the AUSTIN MARATHON! 26 MILES FOR 26 CHARITIES, happening february 15, 2009. This is our second year and we need your help to make this year’s event successful! Run for us or volunteer downtown on race day to cheer on Manos runners at our water stop as they run for Manos’ Mission! This is a great opportunity for your youth group or prayer group. Our Annual Christmas Families Program

  • Our Annual Christmas Families Program will take place Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 10-1! Many programs throughout our community provide toys to their clients during the holidays; at Manos, we are afraid that many of our clients are going without a Christmas meal. We are hoping to exceed the 119 families that were adopted during last year’s holiday season. Each family will receive a basket filled with all the necessary items for a beautiful holiday meal, and each child will be given a toy, game, or article of clothing and in some cases all three. Let us know if you would like to adopt a family or partner with someone else to adopt a larger family 477-7454.


Tamale Sale - Taking Orders

Manos de Cristo is now taking orders for our annual Christmas Tamale Sale. We offer four varieties, pork, bean, chicken and jalapeno/pork, for $10.00 a dozen. Orders may be placed through your church Tamale Sale coordinator; by calling the Manos de Cristo office at 477-7454 and asking for Judy Cardenas or by emailing her at Please arrange to pay for your order when it is placed. Orders must be placed by December 9. Pick-up date for the tamales is Friday, December 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Help us place the largest order to date.

2008 AT&T Austin Marathon

On Sunday, February 17, 2008, Manos de Cristo participated for the first time in the 2008 AT&T Austin Marathon, this year known as “26 Miles for 26 Charities.” We hosted a water station on the half marathon course with over 50 Manos volunteers who served thousands of cups of water and Powerade for the runners. Our enthusiastic volunteers cheered the athletes on with hand clappers, giant poster board hands, and incessant cheers. We hope to participate in this event again next year.


Manos de Cristo's Queen of Hearts Ball Success

Manos de Cristo's Queen of Hearts Ball was an astounding success. With tickets sales up by more than 40%, 23 table sponsorships, the most amount of area ministers in attendance, EVER and an incredible venue the ball will not soon be forgotten! We look forward to improving on this event each year! Join us next February as we gather to benefit the non-profit that is so near and dear to all of our hearts.

Annual Christmas Families Program

Our Annual Christmas Families Program was bigger and better than ever! Many programs throughout our community provide toys to their clients during the holidays; at Manos, we were afraid that many of our clients were going without a Christmas meal. We were able to match over 90 families for adoption this holiday season more than tripling our usual 28 families. Each family received a basket filled with all the necessary items for a beautiful holiday meal, and each child was given a toy, game, or article of clothing and in some cases all three. The response from the community was amazing.

McCormick & Schmick’s Restaurant

McCormick & Schmick’s Restaurant, Downtown opened its doors on Saturday, November 3, for our Harvest of Blessings: Volunteer Appreciation to honor the individuals that make such a huge difference at Manos. The meal was beautiful! Many of our volunteers are so busy when they are at Manos that is was nice for staff, board members and volunteers to have some time with one another. Valerie Thurman was our guest speaker and she shared some pearls of wisdom that she has gathered in her 38 years of non-profit work. Thank you again to all of the individuals who make what we do at Manos possible.

Chocolate, Art & Salsa

We are opening our doors for the second event in our Chocolate fundraising series, “Chocolate, Art & Salsa”, on October 18. With thirteen new chocolatiers, thirteen new artists and some amazing salsa music, it should be a party for all five senses. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students/children and all proceeds will go to benefit our Education Program.

GED Classes

New! GED Classes at Manos de Cristo, we are very proud to announce that we will be partnering with Austin Community College in providing free GED classes, any person 18 years old or older living permanently in the U.S. who did not finish high school can enter our Adult Basic Education/GED classes.  17 year-old students may attend with a copy of a withdrawal letter from the last school they attended. 16 year-old students may attend with a copy of an official court order and a withdrawal letter from the last school they attended. Classes begin Wednesday, October 10, 2007, Monday-Wednesday Evening Classes 6:00-9:00, at Manos de Cristo.

Small Change - Huge Difference

How a Small Change Will Make a Huge Difference at Manos de Cristo. On August 6, 2007, the Manos de Cristo Board named Julie Ballesteros as the new Executive Director. Ballesteros was promoted from Program Director to ED because of her vast knowledge of the organization and her achievements in improving the Basic Needs and Education Programs. The Manos Board and Staff are energized about the decision and the new direction of the organization. Under the new leadership, Manos will continue offering invaluable services including affordable dental care, free education classes, and basic needs to the underserved residents of Austin.


ESL and Computer Classes Begin

The English as a Second Language (ESL) and Computer classes will start August 27. The ESL classes will be held Monday and Wednesday mornings (9:30 am-11:30 am), Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7:00 pm-9:00 pm). The computer classes will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings (7:00 pm-9:00 pm) along with Friday mornings from (9:30 am-11:30 am).

Need Volunteers for Computer Classes

We are looking for volunteers who teach Computer Classes either Tuesday or Thursday evenings (7:00 pm - 9:00 pm). This is a wonderful and rewarding opportunity to practice your Spanish, no experience necessary! Training and materials will be provided. The classes meet from August through December. Food, Fun & Fellowship @ Fleming Success

Food, Fun & Fellowship @ Fleming’s was a grand success! With over 130 people in attendance, we enjoyed wonderful food, an incredible atmosphere, and superb service. Please stay tuned for our next brunch location announcement.

Back-to-School Success

After a very busy Back-to-School, hundreds of volunteers, thousands of school supplies, and millions of raindrops, we were able to serve 1,584 children who might otherwise have returned to school unequipped. Amy's Ice Cream

Amy’s Ice Cream is partnering with Manos to make our Back-to-School Program the most successful ever, it is a two-fold project. As you will notice in all 11 of Amy’s stores there are bins that are collecting school supplies for our program: binders, notebooks, markers, crayons and white glue. They will deliver all of the school supplies to us during our sorting week and they will leave one coupon in each backpack so that all 1500 children can visit their nearest Amy’s and enjoy free ice cream! What a beautiful testament to our program! Make sure you enjoy some ice cream from Amy’s during these hot summer months and thank them on behalf of Manos!


Chocolate, Art & Opera

Chocolate, Art & Opera went so well that we are clueing you in on the second in the series which will benefit the Education Program at Manos. There will be a brand new group of artists featured, a curious spin on chocolate and amazing music for our, “Chocolate, Art & Salsa,” event which will take place Thursday, October 18.

Back-to-School Program

Since the early 90’s, Manos de Cristo has offered our Back-to-School Program to pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students for two weeks each year at the end of July and beginning of August; when each child receives two sets of clothing, including socks and underwear, and a backpack with grade-appropriate school supplies. Through this program, Manos de Cristo helps meet the needs of impoverished families by providing them with the necessities to begin the new school year. From the year 2000 through 2006, Manos de Cristo has prepared 7,648 children for school. In 2007, we expect to provide at least another 1,500 children with the supplies and the confidence they need to begin the year. Please direct your questions to
