As a young girl, Rosa was a victim of psychological and physical abuse. Every day was a struggle. With her mother’s help, she was able to escape

the abuse and move to Austin to begin a new life.

Shortly after moving and starting a new job, she experienced a work accident which resulted in the loss of her right hand.  Unable to work or receive financial compensation for her loss, she struggled to afford clothing and put food on the table. A friend told her about Manos de Cristo.

“I came to Manos seeking help. I felt so grateful to have food, especially fruit, which was a rare treat. Having new clothing was a luxury as well.”
