2011 Back-To-School
This year our Back-To-School program will be held at a new location! The North Austin Events Center has generously offered to let us hold our event in their building located at 10601 North Lamar Blvd.
Back-to-School is an important community program that provides children living in poverty with one backpack, a set of school supplies, books, and two new sets of
clothing. The program helps children to feel confident and creates positive experiences at the beginning of school to promote academic success.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Preparation: Monday – Friday, July 25 – 29
Program & Distribution Dates: Monday – Friday, August 1 –5 and August 8 – 12
Shifts are 8 am – 12 pm and 1 – 3 pm. Afternoon shifts will only be for restocking the clothes and school supplies. Please note if any volunteers are 13 or under. Children under 13 must volunteer with a parent or adult responsible for them.
REGISTRATION
Filling out registration forms with parents. [10 per day / 8am – 12pm]
Must have good handwriting and be bilingual.
WELCOME AND ORIENTATION
Provide much needed general support directing families upon entry, directing children to the clothing area, taking children to and from the bathrooms outside, and assisting with the children as needed. [5 per day / 8am – 12pm]
ENTERTAINMENT
Entertain groups of children for approximately 30 minutes while they wait to pick out their clothing. Volunteers with experience performing, entertaining children, or working with children will help make this a fun experience for children. [1 per day / 8am – 12pm]
CLOTHING SELECTION
Help children choose clothing according to guidelines given and make sure the clothes fit each child properly. [20 per day / 8am – 12pm]
STUDENT CHECKOUT
Talk with and review the children’s bags of clothing to ensure each child has the necessary items before exiting the clothing area and heading for school supplies. [4 per day / 8am – 12pm]
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Hand out school supplies and backpacks to the children as they come to the end of the program. [4 per day / 8am – 12pm]
SORT, RESTOCK and TIDY-UP
During the program clothing must be reorganized, restocked, and placed in the correct areas by size and gender. Assist with keeping the program presentable and clean for the next day’s children; break down boxed, sweep, help clear clutter, and other duties as needed. [10 per day / 1pm – 3pm]
DATA ENTRY
Assist with entering client information into our database at our offices on Harmon Avenue. [2 per day / 8am – 12pm]
PHOTOGRAPHER
Photograph the program for use in future Manos marketing and publicity. Please be available to upload photos from digital media immediately after the program and be willing to give Manos and partners approved by Manos rights to reprint and distribute the photographs. [1-2 per day / 8am – 12pm]
VIDEOGRAPHER
Shoot video of the program. Film volunteers, children, and staff and capture what BTS is all about to publicize the Manos and its programs. Please be willing to give Manos and partners approved by Manos rights to distribute the video. [1 per day / 8am – 12pm]
